Elaine Tyler May, Professor of American Studies and History at the University of Minnesota, was a recent President of the American Studies Association and a Fulbright Distinguished Professor of American History at University College Dublin, Ireland. Her books include Homeward Bound: American Families in the Cold War Era (revised edition, 2000), and Barren in the Promised Land: Childless Americans and the Pursuit of Happiness (1995).
