Pain and Shock in America

October 12, 2021 @ 12:00 pm

Join us for a book launch of Jan Nisbet’s Pain and Shock in America: Politics, Advocacy, and the Controversial Treatment of People with Disabilities.

This is the first book on the Judge Rotenberg Center and their use of painful interventions to control the behavior of children and adults with disabilities. This event will include an interview-style conversation between the author Jan Nisbet and Ari Ne’eman, visiting scholar at the Lurie Institute for Disability Policy and co-founder of the Autistic Self Advocacy Network. Following that there will be a panel discussion of professionals on the legal and disability policy impacts of this ongoing fight: Jennifer Mathis, Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law; Nancy Weiss, Director of National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities; and Finn Gardiner, Lurie Institute for Disability Policy.

We will be providing ASL interpretations and live captions. Please email lurie@brandeis.edu for any additional accommodation requests. Register here for access to this webinar.
